Rogersville Alabama 34◦48'.737 N 087◦19'.973 W

We made it to Rogersville on time. We always said doing this Great loop of America is something that you should never set a schedule for, because things can happen to delay you and when you have a schedule to keep you end up doing stupid things or taking risks you otherwise would not. So for our trip we had one and only scheduled event and it was this Looper's Rendezvous. The delays we faced along the way; especially in Lake Michigan made us worry that we would not make it on time. While we made no stupid decisions, We certainly did not stop and smell the roses as much as we would have liked, because of this schedule. Now we end up here 2 days earlier than anticipated!

This is a beautiful place so it certainly will not be hard to take, The Marina we are at is called the Joe Wheeler State Park. We are not the only ones who made it early. There are about 10 "looper" boats here already and several more scheduled to arrive tomorrow night.   By Monday this whole place will be hopping with a couple of hundred loopers and want to be loopers in attendance

There is a golf course on site as well as a swimming pool; so I am sure that it will not be to difficult to find something to spend our time on until the Rendezvous starts. It was so hot this afternoon that we already got to try out the pool.
During this swim, we met Michelle and Dave. They got here yesterday. We had a lovely chat and ended up going out to dinner with them. We hit it off really well and I think we were a little giddy, because by the time dinner was over I was hurting from laughing so much.

Monday will be the official opening of this Rendezvous and we will have an opportunity to sit in on many sessions regrading our upcoming travels. We are not overly concerned about the rest of the river system. What we really want to know is when and how to cross the Gulf of Mexico. This particular crossing will require another overnight crossing because we are too slow to make it across the Gulf during daylight hours. So what most people like us do, is wait for a good weather window and then take off in the afternoon and get to land during early am in the daylight.
Anyway the week promises to be a good one and of course I will not be posting any more coordinates until we leave.

Under the category of "Better Late than Never" I am very embarrassed about missing my sister Marie-Anne's big day, but it is never too late to congratulate someone for a special achievement. So congratulations my humble, brilliant, sister. You and your team should all feel very proud and honored  for being the recipients of the Governor General's Award of Excellence in Public Service. ....I think this also makes me brilliant by association right? I may share your brilliance, but apparently I missed on out the humility thing :) lol  Nighty night y'all

  1. Wow!!! I think you have had enough issues with the boat to last the rest of the Loop. Glad to hear you made it safe and sound to Wheeler. You will enjoy the seminars that are offered, and you heads will hurt from all the info. Say hi to Meander & Pura Vida for us.
    Love, Randy & Sherri
