Well today was a rainy day yet again. To top it off we had
to move a bunch of fenders in the rain in order to lock through on the port
side and then back on the starbord side.
It was wet cool and tiring but we
finally made it through. We started our day with a bridge dude who came in late
for work and did not actually get through the bridge until well past 10am.
We
were on a mission to get as far as we could and any delay was not welcomed. As
it turns out, we did get through all the locks and into Georgian Bay. We could have gone slower, but in this rain,, there was really no sights we wanted to stop and check out. Besides next week we are going through here again, so we will take our time checking it all out with Mom and Dad.
We did
the Big chute again. This was my 4th time through this lock and
oddly it does not get any easier. Admittedly I am much better with heights than
I used to be, but man that vertigo still gets me in its grips when we do these
great heights. The bonus was that the lock guys did an inspection on our
bottom. Apparently all is well with a little bit of pain missing on the keel.
No surprise there! I'm pretty sure we left all that paint in Florida's coast
line.
The lock guys were still all really friendly, despite the
downpour. Well this one does have his Timmy's so that makes everything better
right?
Once we got through the last lock, we inquired about the
weather in Georgian bay. Specifically the winds and waves. If it was rough, we
would stay right there, if it was calm, we would keep going until we reached
Penetanguishene. It was calm so we went. The 10 mile run went by smoothly and
as if by magic, the skies cleared up just as we rounded the corner to Harbor West
Marina- Penetang.
We were greeted by wonderful waves and smiles from Jeff and
Sue and it lifted our spirits big time. The boat in the background is their new
baby that they just bought about 1.5 months ago. Really nice boat and we had the pleasure of a nice roast beef dinner on it, Yummy.
We are currently at Harbor West which is the Marina Jeff and
Susan stay at, but we will be moving tomorrow am to the Penetanguishene City
docks for the remainder of the week. This is where Jeff is now the Harbor Master. So
our plodding was all worth it. We now get rewarded with a week of rest with
good friends followed by a week of quiet slow navigation with the best
in-laws a girl could ever ask for. What
more can we possibly want out of life?
