We left Pentwater @ 0700hrs, however it was quit rough in
the mouth of the harbor. The first picture is what it looked like when we left,
the second picture shows the waves coming into the canal to Pentwater (look at
the lower left side of the picture) A few minutes later we saw this beautiful
double rainbow (see pic) and then another few moments and you can see the
result of the large wave that hit us broad side. We have had some large waves
hit us, but never have we had our large drawer open like this! I asked Jim to
point the nose into the waves for a bit while I tried to clean this up, but Oh
my god this was pretty horrible. So after another few minutes we had to make a
choice...turn around or head into the waves to get across the lake. Since we
had no idea how the rest of the trip would be; we had not checked the weather
for across the lake; and this was visibly NOT the forecast we had heard or
read, we opted to turn around. So after a whole hour out we were back safe and
sound at the dock. Well it was not a total loss, since we got to meet Jeff and
Susan. We met them on the way back in as they were leaving and then we met them
more officially when they also turned around and came back into the harbor.
After chatting about the horrible weather and the awful waves, we decided to
make the best of it and met for dinner. Susan and Jeff came over on their
dinghy and we BBQ'ed here while we exchanged sailing stories and a few drinks.
All in all it was a great night. Tomorrow we try again.
Night all
Hope the double rainbow meant fair sailing today!
