Sept 11, 2014 darn it's cold!

The weather was not cooperating again today, so we stayed another day in Manistee. There where white caps on the river this morning and we are 1 mile in from Lake Michigan, so that was a pretty good indicator to stay put. It has been drizzling all day long so we had breakfast, a warm one for a change, because I was trying to heat the boat up. We have 3 furnaces on the boat, however last week when the generator needed a new impeller Jim had to replace the gasket. Except we had no gaskets so he borrowed one from the heating units. So now, as cold as we were, we really could not start the furnace until he got a new gasket for it. So after breakfast we went for a little walk about again. We are certainly doing our part to support the local economy! We went across the bridge this time and located, first a grocery store, then the local auto parts store where we got some new Raycor filters and the much needed gaskets, then the local plumbing store to get some caulking. We spent the afternoon puttering around but with heat now. I cannot believe that I have to wear a sweater and jacket (by the way thank you Liz, those Jackets are really warm!) After the puttering we did some laundry. We have a washing machine on the boat but no dryer, so I did the laundry here and then brought it to the Marina Laundromat to dry them. We were done that by 4:30pm and then we went to visit Karen and Skip on their Kreugen cruiser. What a beautiful boat! Karen and Skip are from Anchorage Alaska. Skip and his brothers run the River boat Discovery tour and the El Dorado Gold mines train tour. I am dying to know if you went on either of those tours Mom and Dad or Nella and Walter. They invited us out to dinner tonight and we went to the Boat House Grill. Lovely conversation and very informative. Skip was telling us all about the Anchorage houses with no running water and outhouses. Can you imagine going out for a pee in the middle of the night when it's 50 below! Burrrrr! They are such a lovely couple, very friendly and personable. Well not an exciting day today but lots done again and we are all set to leave tomorrow early am an see how far south we can get. Hopefully somewhere where we don't need a sweater.
