We are now officially in the Erie Canal, having crossed the
Troy Lock this morning and we are currently at the Waterford Visitors Centre. This
is our last full day with Stéphanie and I am feeling a bit of separation
anxiety. It sure has been nice to have her for the week, but alas all good
things must come to an end. We left the marina at 1130am and made our way
through lock # 1, also called the Federal Lock. We were tied up to the
Waterford Visitor's centre by 1:30pm. Longest day ever! Anyway, once we got
here and settled in, we grabbed a quick lunch and then went for a walk around
town. We saw some of it yesterday, but we apparently did not know where all the
cool places were.
They have lovely parks and a few historical buildings. This particular one is called the old lady's home. Apparently because it was built by a wealthy gentleman's wife. This town is the oldest incorporated town in all of New York, dating back to the late 1700's.
I also really like this sign posted on the old bank. In case you cannot read it, it says that bank robbers were acquitted of the crime, so the leader took the jury out for dinner after the court case was settled and also gave back part of the loot. Ah the good old days! Oh who am I kidding, this kind of stuff still happens but now it is called politics.

After our walk, Steph and I went for a little adventure on
the dinghy. She is the queen of the world...although not quite on the Titanic.
When we went around this little island, we ended up hitting bottom and we had
to row for a little while until we got into deeper water. We were laughing so
hard, we were going around in circles. We did finally end up getting out of
there and came home just in time for dinner, which Jim had prepared during our escapades.
We ended our night with a game of cards, which Steph called the redemption game, but she received no redemption I'm afraid. So Tomorrow am, we will do 2 more locks and then drop Steph off at her car at lock #3, then we'll keep going on. It's an early start in the am though, so we'll have to get the youngen out of bed at dawn...it will be just like old times.
