Turns out the capital city is not that entertaining! We are
located in an very industrial part of Albany. Well actually in Rensselaer NY,
right across the river from Albany. We set out in the morning to do some
serious provisioning and that took up on entire morning. During our trip around
town, we saw nothing but cement and loads of overpasses.
All of this to say that we
did no, nada,
none, nien, Nr, aucun, sightseeing. We did however
go for a ride to the locks and stage Stephanie's car a little farther down the
path so that she could experience a lock or 2 with us.
While we were checking
out locks # 1,2 and 3 on the Erie Canal, we stopped to ask a local if he knew
how to get off at one of the locks and return to a car. You see the US locks
are very commercial and the security here is quite a bit tighter than the park
like atmosphere of our park like pleasure craft locks in Canada. This Gentleman
was delightful, but it took Jim a while to end this pleasant conversation.
We then returned home and had another game night where the score
was Steph- 106, Jim 58 and Mimi 34. Stephanie wants to play one more game
tomorrow night so she can redeem herself!
So we have changed our plans ever so slightly to keep our
baby with us and extra day. We will now go a huge 6 miles up the road to
Waterford and go through the 1st Federal lock, we will spend the
night there and then on Wednesday morning, we will go through locks 2 and 3 and
then drop Stephanie off at her car and continue on our merry way up the Erie
Canal. Our next official stop will be Brewerton NY for a fill up before
entering our Home Country again.
One last note before I leave you tonight. Our US cell phone
needed to be renewed on the 19th, given that we are only a few days
from exiting the US, we have opted not to renew it, which means that the US
number is no longer valid as of Tomorrow am. We will now be back on our
Canadian Service and phone number. That is the second number listed on our
card.
Good night all.
