We have had a wonderful week with lots of activities here at
the resort. Monday we went to Lucaya by bus, walked around a bit, had a coffee
at the Unexco and then walked back to the resort. By the time we got back ( a
four mile walk) I was a tad overheated. Thank
god I brought water along.
Tuesday was Bingo day and Karaoke at night. I won a key
chain which makes this the best Bingo prize I have ever won. I know it's sad
really. The activity director here has a bit of a twist at Bingo too. You must
tell a joke to the whole group before you are allowed to play. Very interesting
and I must admit there were some good ones told. A few were a bit off color
which made it all the better.
Wednesday Jim and I went snorkeling in the morning.
Unfortunately we took a wrong turn in Albuquerque and ended up in a place where
there was little to see, but we had fun anyway.
Jim also rearrange the ladder
to get into the dinghy and it was much easier this time. Last time I tried to
get back into the dinghy in deep water, my twisting and struggling made me look
like a beached whale. This time I got to maintain a little dignity.
Wednesday
night we went out with a new acquaintance named Dan who showed us where the $2
bar is. Beer in the Bahamas is very expensive. Most restaurants charge $7 per
beer, so this type of restaurant is a real find. We took the dinghy over to a
beach and then walked ½ mile or so to this little dive in the wall.
The burgers
where good, the beer was cheap and the company was very nice. What more could
we ask for. Riding back home our path was lit by a full moon which made it even
better. We saw some interesting sights along the way.
Jim got to get a lot of practice changing tires this week
too. He got a flat tire on his bike and obviously he patched it. We went out
for a ride and the tire went flat again.
So back we come and this time he opted for a new inner tube. The hardware
store is 5 miles away and with no bike to ride, we thought we would grab a bus.
The resort we are at rents bikes, so they gave us one. Very nice of them! After
changing this inner tube we took off to investigate the other side of the
island. Unfortunately he got a flat again. Back home we come. He felt all around the rim
and could not find any reason for this repeated flat. One of the guys here took
the tire and checked it out and he found nothing. I then turned the tire inside
out and felt around the inside and found a small piece of glass embedded in it.
So problem solved right? Not so fast! Next ride out his tire went flat yet
again. We were told by the electrician here that patches in tires do not seem
to hold well in this climate. So off to
the hardware store we go. Now we have a new tire, a new inner tube and Jim is
sick of removing tires off rims.
Friday the girls took a bus into Freeport to go shopping. I
promise to give you the low down on the buses on the next blog. Suffice to say
that holding on is a must! We were 9 women and Jim. He was teased a bit but he
got over it :)
Friday night is games night.
Our game...well not
so much. Jaime, the youngest member at our table found it rather tiring.
Saturday was supposed to be pot luck at the beach. Time to
go was 11am which is exactly the time when it started to pour. Jim had made a macaroni
salad. His world famous macaroni salad none the less. The bowl was so large we
had a hard time fitting it into the fridge. So when the rain stopped he walked
from boat to boat, spooning this salad into people's bowls until it was all
gone. He invented a new way to do pot luck because moments later Bunky walk by
with a pan full of brownies, dropping a few off at every boat. We never say no
to brownies!
Today, with the bike fixed we got to go for a ride around
the various resorts; than a quick dip in the pool. It's a hard life I tell ya.
Well that about sums it up for this week. Who knows what next week will bring. Good night all.
